Ever since American Idol first aired, singing competitions have become insanely popular.
We love watching amateur singers do one of two things.
We love watching them butcher a song.
We also love watching them nail a song. Perhaps even more.
The best singing reality show moments bring out deep emotion.
We laugh, we cry, and we just feel good all over.

Unforgettable Singing Reality Show Moments
Each of these performances blew the judges away on the show. Then they blew the rest of us away for years afterward, as the Youtube videos continued to earn views and likes, and the performers continued to gain new fans.
Daniel Chettoe Singing Cry Me A River at Britain’s Got Talent
I love Britain’s Got Talent because you never know what you’re going to get – from students performing high-class opera feats to comedians and expert dancers to kids blowing your mind with beautiful voices. Everything is possible in this singing reality show.
Although Daniel Chettoe didn’t win the event in 2015, he went massively viral with his astonishingly deep, energetic rendition of Cry Me A River. This is mainly impressive because he was a 15-year-old student at the time.
The funny part of this little performance is looking at the jury, who were all visibly surprised and amazed in equal measure. Hearing Daniel sing with such passion is enough to make a blind man cry. I still get goosebumps even close to a decade later every time I watch this clip.
Suffice it to say that this 1-minute sample of Chettoe’s vocal prowess went super-viral, accruing over 2.6 million views and more than 14,000 likes on YouTube alone.
Roland Abante Singing I Will Always Love You at AGT Qualifiers
Imagine crossing multiple continents and oceans, not knowing the language of the locals, and singing in front of millions of people during the qualifier round for the acclaimed America’s Got Talent reality TV show.
One Roland Abante, a Filipino fisherman and driver, was bold enough to step onto the big stage in 2023, and this wasn’t his first time brandishing his gorgeous voice in front of big audiences.
To earn his passage into the next round, Roland pulled out an amazing performance of Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You.
In his spare time between juggling two jobs, Roland is either singing karaoke at local pubs or writing original music. You can look up his Para Kang Baliw, Love Changes Everything, or Anino Bunot on YouTube if you’d like to hear more.
Adrienne Bailon Singing Hallelujah on The Masked Singer
Someone thought it would be fun to dress singers, and actors in huge, oversized costumes and sing and dance, while iconic celebrities like Jackie Chan and Nicole Scherzinger guess who they are.
Enter, The Masked Singer. The show was as entertaining as advertised and it was green-lighted for 11 seasons.
Every episode of this show had me at the edge of my seat, trying to unmask the people I grew up with. But one performance stands out more than others – Adrienne Bailon singing Hallelujah.
Imagine a flamingo singing one of the most emotional songs clad in pink feathers. You don’t know whether to sing or cry, but why not both?
Adrienne was present in numerous episodes of The Masked Singer, and this is easily one of her most popular acts, sporting 77,000 views and thousands of likes.
Loui Mai Singing Bohemian Rhapsody at The Voice
I’m extremely skeptical of singers attempting to cover anything the late, great Freddie Mercury did with Queen. Or at least I was, until I heard Loui Mai shine at the blind auditions of The Voice France in 2017.
It was beautiful to hear a child capture the unbridled passion of a legendary singer, and every crack in her voice reveals that she’s perfectly in tune with Bohemian Rhapsody.
As expected, a successful cover of such an intricate song, by a child let me remind you, went viral in a flash. The clip is currently 38 million views strong and counting while over 300,000 people have tapped the like button to support the young singer.
Wolf Winters Singing The Sound of Silence on The Voice Australia
Yet another impossible song, The Sound of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel, was covered by a singer called Wolf Winters on the 2020s The Voice Australia. While the feat of successfully singing this tune from start to finish is praiseworthy enough, what shook me the most was how deep Wolf’s voice was.
The silent nods of admiration, approval, and confusion the jurors shared made me release a loud chuckle. But the watergates were about to pop for both me, and virtually everyone in the audience, when Winters zoned in on the refrain.
That’s when I learned that it wasn’t Simon & Garfunkel’s version. It was David Draiman’s and Disturbed’s unique pitch on The Sound of Silence, kicked up a notch by Wolf’s fathomlessly deep and powerful voice.
Seven million views and close to a hundred thousand likes in just a few short years. It’s safe to say Wolf went viral with this tune.
Daniel Tudor Singing The Real Slim Shady at The Voice Romania
In all previous clips, I found myself laughing from surprise at the sheer vocal prowess of contestants in various reality singing TV shows. I’ve been saving Daniel Tudor’s performance and his take on Eminem’s The Real Slim Shady for last, because I believe it seamlessly blends comedy gold with polished talent. Let’s see why this one’s so special to warrant over 4.1 million views.
Firstly, let me tip my hat to this gentleman as he pinched his nose to do the intro justice. Before that very moment, the judges were sharing confused looks with surprised smirks on their faces and more questions than answers.
Who pulls such an old gem for a high-end competition? What I love about televised blind auditions is that all the facial expressions are genuine, and this one had me rolling on the floor.
This initially led me to think that I was watching a parody, but mere seconds later, Daniel began rapping and I realized I was completely wrong.
As he expertly pulled every line with proficiency comparable to the real Real Slim Shady, I was thoroughly amused by how the crowd gradually pulled away from the confusion and began vibing.
In case you’re new to Eminem, this particular tune has quite a few inappropriate stunts and controversial lyrics, yet Daniel didn’t even flinch. The jury was very amused, to say the least. And Daniel not only earned a pass, but also got 4.1 million views and over 124,000 likes for this brilliant performance.
