Songs With Angel In The Title Or Lyrics
As we always do, we tried to do our best to include as many different genres as possible below. That way, there should be at least a few songs here that appeal to you.
Angel by Massive Attack
You may not recognize Massive Attack’s Angel by name, but you will probably recognize it when you hear it. That’s because this song has been used in countless well-known movies and TV shows.
Angel was never all that successful outside of its use in other media, though. The song was released as the third single from Massive Attack’s 1998 album, Mezzanine. It made it up to number 30 on the UK Singles Chart, but did not chart in the US.
The lyrics seem to tell of a woman so beautiful and mesmerizing that she captivates every man, including the singer. To love her is dangerous, but he can’t stoop himself. In other words, she is a dark angel.
It would have made a good song for the show Dark Angel with Jessica Alba, but that is one of the few shows in which the song has not appeared. Yes, that’s an exaggeration, but the song really has made in appearance in a large number of movies and TV shows.
My Lover’s Box by Garbage
My Lover’s Box is a lesser-known track from Garbage’s self-titled debut album, released in 1995. It might not be nearly as well known as the singles released from the album (Stupid Girl, Vow, Only Happy When It Rains, Queer, and Milk), but it is every bit as good. This is one of the best alternative bands with female lead singers, after all.
This song gives us a somewhat dark take on love and relationships. With its edgy and industrial sound, this song explores the tangled web of emotions that often accompany intimate connections.
Lead singer Shirley Manson’s vocals and the band’s distinctive blend of rock, electronica, and grunge create a sense of urgency and intensity that underscores the song’s themes.
The lyrics hint at a tumultuous relationship, with references to control, longing, and the struggle for autonomy. It lands on this list thanks to a repeated line in the chorus: “send me an angel to love.”
Angel by Madonna
Madonna’s ethereal song Angel is from her superhit album Like a Virgin, released in 1984. It is one of the most successful pop albums ever.
The song was extremely well-received and has millions of hits on YouTube. It reached spot number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the year of its release.
In an interview, Madonna explained the meaning of this song. It is about a girl who falls in love with, and is saved by, an angel. She feels overwhelming joy just being in the angel’s presence.
Angels Like You by Miley Cyrus
In Angels Like You, Miley Cyrus describes her lover as better than her. As a result, she wants to leave the relationship because she knows she likes to self-destruct and sabotage her happiness.
Released in 2020, Angels Like You is part of Cyrus’s album Plastic Hearts. Fans speculate that the song is about Cyrus’ split from her husband, Liam Hemsworth. It went viral on various social media channels, especially TikTok, where it is used as a background for videos.
Send Me An Angel by Scorpions
Klaus Meine of Scorpions sang this beautiful biblical ballad for the band’s 1990 album Crazy World. This happens to be the band’s 11th studio album.
Send Me an Angel went on to become Scorpion’s greatest hit, reaching number 44 on the Billboard Hot 100. It reached even higher positions in Europe, such as number 2 in Belgium and number 4 in Denmark.
The lyrics of Send Me an Angel are like a prayer. The protagonist asks God to send him an angel to guide him through the dark times. There are several biblical references in the verses. Klaus’s beautiful vocals and the out-of-the-world guitar playing in the song have made it one of the band’s greatest hits.
Angel Of The Morning by Juice Newton
Written by Chip Taylor, Angel of the Morning is a song about the shame one experiences after a one-night stand. The singer speaks of the night before and knows that the couple will regret the affair the next day. However, the lyrics also describe the singer’s willingness to take such a risk.
There are many versions of this song but Juice Newton’s 1981 version for her album Juice remains the highest charting.
Calling All Angels by Jane Siberry and K.D. Lang
Calling All Angels (1991) is a beautiful duet by K.D. Lang and Jane Siberry. It talks about human pain and suffering as well as the beauty in the world. The singers call upon God’s help and guidance and acknowledge that humans are not alone in their struggles.
The lyrics of Calling All Angels also describe a soul’s journey as it passes through the cycle of life and death. Somewhere along the way, as a soul goes through difficult human experiences, it remembers heaven and calls upon God.
Too Many Angels by Jackson Browne
In Too Many Angels, singer Jackson Browne talks about being surrounded by many angels. These are in the form of angel figurines, cherubs, or photos of innocent kids.
All of these angels witness his tears as he experiences his lover’s lies, betrayal, and infidelity. The song also portrays the singer’s loneliness and the depths of his grief, despair, and depression.
It highlights his painful past but also expresses some hope for the future. The many angels that surround him keep him from moving forward, and sometimes end up making him feel more isolated.
Angeleyes by ABBA
ABBA’s music prowess is evident through this 1979 song, Angeleyes, which, unfortunately, did not become as big a chart topper as some of their other hits.
In Angeleyes, the singers describe a seductive man with beautiful eyes. Although he is good-looking, he doesn’t have a good heart. He is a player and seduces many women.
ABBA’s female singers, Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, based this song on their own mistakes of falling for good-looking men and having great times with them. However, they also warn other women to be careful of such men.
Angel In My Heart by Brian Hyland
In Angel in My Heart, the singer describes a warm feeling after he realizes there is an angel in his heart. This angel has always been there for him and has been around for him through thick and thin.
The singer feels guided by the angel’s presence. Now he has no doubt that this angel will always be there to guide him. The song was first released in 1960.
Angel Of Harlem by U2
U2 released Angel of Harlem in 1988 as the second single from their album Rattle and Hum. The music video for the track depicts clips from the premieres of the movie Angel of Harlem, from both New York and Los Angeles.
The movie is about Billie Halliday, a jazz singer. The song is a tribute to him. The lyrics also talk about how music and art can provide solace and comfort to anyone going through trying times.
She Talks To Angels by The Black Crowes
She Talks to Angels is a track from The Black Crowes’ 1990 album Shake Your Money Maker.
The lyrics describe a girl who is addicted to drugs. She cannot love anyone, because she is only fixated on getting her fix. Her family is upset with her use of drugs and she says she prefers to tell people she is an orphan rather than acknowledge them.
She uses dark makeup and always pulls down her shades. This depicts her shame about her drug habit. Some lyrics also mention that she keeps the lock of hair of a boy, probably her son or brother.
Angel by Aerosmith
In Aerosmith’s Angel, the singer asks his beloved to come and save him. He says he will leave his pride aside and break down all the walls between them. This is because, in his eyes, his beloved is an angel and the only one who can make his life all right again.
Thus, Angel is a song about love, longing, and redemption. It captures the singer’s raw vulnerability and also describes the healing power of love. The 1987 track still holds a special place in the hearts of Aerosmith fans.
Sweet Black Angel by Rolling Stones
Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones wrote the protest song Sweet Black Angel about black activist Angela Davis. In 1970, Davis got arrested but was later found not guilty for helping an individual escape from a courtroom.
Unfortunately, a few people died during this drama. In 1980, Davis went on to become the vice-presidential candidate for the US Communist Party.
The timeless masterpiece is from The Stones most creative album, Exile on Main Street, released in 1972.
Angel Baby by Troye Sivan
Angel Baby is a nostalgia-soaked love ballad by Troye Sivan. It talks about an angel who comes into the singer’s life and rejuvenates and recharges him.
Sivan’s representation of gay love in this 2021 song is full of grace and freedom. Many people have lauded his efforts to represent the queer community in such a beautiful manner.
Angel Baby reached number 1 on the charts in Malaysia and the Philippines. It was also in the top 5 in several other Asian countries. However, the UAE and Saudi Arabia blocked the video of Angel Baby due to its LGBTQ+ inclusion.
Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel by Tavares
Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel by the Tavares Brothers is a lively disco song from their album Sky High! released in 1976.
The upbeat track suggests that an angel leaving heaven must be the reason for the singer’s newfound love. In 1976, it reached number one on the Netherlands Top 40 chart.
The song was well-received globally and praised for its catchy disco rhythm. It remains a classic example of the disco era’s vibrant music.
My Special Angel by Bobby Helms
My Special Angel is a sweet love song expressing the singer’s deep affection for his beloved. The lyrics describe someone special who brings joy and happiness, making the singer’s life brighter and more meaningful. It conveys his sense of gratitude for having this special person in his life.
The song was released as a single in 1957. Its timeless lyrics and melody have made it a classic love ballad and its popularity endures even today.
Three Angels by Bob Dylan
Three Angels is a track from Bob Dylan’s album New Morning, released in 1970. The song narrates surreal and whimsical events involving three angels who appear to influence various aspects of life.
At first, most listeners think they are the three kings who witnessed the birth of baby Jesus. However, these celestial beings then start to engage in peculiar activities, like playing the horn and crawling back from work.
Dylan’s lyrics paint a dreamlike picture and blur the lines between reality and fantasy. Through this song, he questions whether anyone hears the music the three angels play or if they even attempt to do so.
Angel by Sarah McLachan
Angel is a song from Sarah McLachlan’s album Surfacing, released in 1997. The lyrics describe the singer’s longing, vulnerability, and desire for comfort.
McLachlan sings about the challenges of life, seeking solace, and hoping for an angel to rescue and provide support during difficult times. Angel resonates with listeners because of its depiction of human struggles and how most people turn to celestial beings like angels for strength.
