Rap Songs About Money

We tried to include a large variety of rappers and rap styles on this list. That way, there should be at least a few money songs here that appeal to any rap fan.

Cash Money by Tyga

American rapper Tyga released Cash Money as a standalone single in 2016. The track’s lyrics express his disappointment over not having been compensated adequately by his former recording company.

At the same time, he brags about his current lavish lifestyle. He also mentions other rappers, like Lil’ Wayne, who had a similar experience with his studio album Tha Carter V.

Mo Money Mo Problems by Notorious B.I.G

Mo Money Mo Problems is a track from Notorious B.I.G’s 1997 album Life After Death. The song went on to receive the 1998 Grammy Award Nomination for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.

Most rappers who write songs about money describe the lavish lifestyles their success has brought for them through their songs – but not Notorious B.I.G.

Through Mo Money Mo Problems, this talented artist showcases the dark side of money. He believes that money brings about problems such as jealousy and greed and even makes you a target of scammers and bad people. Through Mo Money Mo Problems, Notorious B. I. G also pays homage to Diana Ross, since this track is built on her 1980 hit I’m Coming Out.

Whole Lot Of Money by BIA Ft. Nicki Minaj

BIA (Bianca Miquela Landrau) had been messaging Nicki Minaj for almost three years before the latter noticed her. Nicki DM’ed BIA to congratulate her on her Whole Lot of Money hit which is when she discovered BIA’s texts!

The two then collaborated to remix the song. The new version became even more popular than the original and went on to reach the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100.

BIA explained the meaning behind this song in an interview with the following words: “However much money people want to have is how much money they can have and that’s what I want the song to do for people to put them in their bag.”

Money by Cardi B

American hip-hop and rap artist Cardi B raps about money and her baby (Kulture) in her 2018 single, Money. It is no secret that Cardi has created immense wealth for herself which is amazing given her low-income upbringing in a neighborhood known for drugs and violence.

However, in the track Money, the artist says she wants even more money, now that she has a baby whom she loves more than anything in the world.

About The Money by T.I Ft. Young Thug

About The Money became T.I.’s most successful single. It was certified platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) and even went on to reach the ninth spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2014.

T.I. raps about his lavish lifestyle which he attributes to his career in the music industry. He also says that he did not opt for this career for fame or success, but only because he wanted to make a ton of money. Young Thug adds to the lyrics by boasting about his wealth and how money can buy him anything he wants.

Scared Money by YG (Ft. J. Cole and Moneybagg Yo)

The term ‘scared money’ in YG’s Scared Money (released in 2022 for his album I Got Issues) refers to the adage that you cannot make money if you are fearful. You need to be courageous to invest bravely.

Rapper YG teamed up with J Cole and Moneybagg Yo to talk about the luxuries money can buy, like designer clothes and fancy cars. They indirectly state that they are better than most people since they have all this wealth.

When The Money Goes by Jay Z

Jay Z released When The Money Goes in 2009. The talented rapper’s songs are always packed with meaning and like all his other tracks, When The Money Goes is a thought-provoking piece of art.

Through this song, Jay Z asks his listeners to keep an eye on what matters the most, and it is not money or materialistic wealth, but love.

Jay Z wonders whether love and loyalty will remain, once his money and wealth are gone. He describes different scenarios that “have made him poor” and asks if his girl will stay with him or walk away. The latter situation may be what inspired him to write one of his sad rap songs.

Pay Day by Doja Cat ft. Young Thug

Doja Cat has been known for her fun songs right from the time she became known for her superhit Mooo!

In her 2021 track Pay Day, she talks about making money only to spend it on others, especially her team. She also aims to inspire her listeners by giving her example, especially her rise to fame and success.

The primary focus of Pay Day is ambition, but it also deals with the themes of societal constructs regarding success and happiness. The song’s catchy melody and relatable lyrics have made Pay Day popular with Doja’s fans the world over.

I Get Money by 50 Cent

50 Cent’s I Get Money is from his third studio album, Curtis, released in 2007. The track has relatable lyrics of making your own way in the world, starting from nothing, which is why it became a huge hit with his fans and is considered one of the best songs of his career.

I Get Money talks about the rapper’s rise to fame and how he made it big in the music industry. 50 Cent tells us about his determination and resilience that helped him overcome obstacles.

He also mentions his early struggles where he had to make use of limited resources to make ends meet. Not only was I Get Money well-received by critics and fans, but it also cracked the top 20 in The Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Straight To The Bank by 50 Cent

Straight to The Bank is also from Curtis, 50 Cent’s 2007 album mentioned above. Through this track, 50 Cent motivates us, especially those of us who are struggling with lack of money and financial instability.

Again, 50 Cent talks about his difficult life on the streets before he made it big in the music industry. Through the song’s lyrics, the rapper tells us to grab opportunities and work hard to achieve our goals.

For The Love Of Money by Dr. Dre (Ft. Anderson .Paak, Jill Scott & Jon Connor)

For The Love of Money touches upon various topics related to wealth. For example, the first stanza describes the singer feeling ‘out of place’ when he attends an event hosted by and for wealthy people.

The party-goers insult him, while some gold-digging women chase him. Throughout the event, he remains untouched by the wealth and chooses to give his message about uplifting his small community from where he has come.

In the next stanza, the singer states that he does not stick to any rules and makes his own. He also desires to be with a woman who will not bring any drama in his life. He also mentions that he will achieve success by the right means and after paying his dues.

Throughout the song, the chorus reminds us all about the power of money. Released in 2015, For The Love of Money became extremely popular with Dr. Dre fans and remains one of his top songs to date.

Gettin Money by Tupac (2Pac)

Tupac Shakur was a genius and many of his songs have a deep meaning. At first glance, Gettin Money may seem like a song about making money.

In reality, it is an anthem for encouraging listeners to have dreams, goals, and ambitions. Without these, life becomes worthless. After all, every man should have a purpose, and money-making can be a good goal to have.

At the same time, Tupac encourages all those who are struggling in life to still have dreams. No matter what cards you are dealt, use them to achieve your goals.

He also pays tribute to all his allies who helped him on the way but lost their lives. Tupac’s message towards the song’s end is: never show off your wealth and success, since that can lead to your demise.

Bank Account by 21 Savage

Released in 2017, Savage’s  Bank Account describes the singer’s wealth, power, and status. The singer boasts that money helps him buy expensive things, like designer clothes and fancy cars.

He also talks about using violence to teach his enemies a lesson. Thus, he wants to create an image of his wealth and power and intimidate people with his dangerous reputation.

Gold Digger by Kanye West Ft. Jamie Foxx

Gold Digger is one of Kanye’s biggest hits. It spent several weeks in the top spot on The Billboard Top 100. It was also ninth on the list of most played songs of the decade between 2000-2009.

Gold Digger refers to a woman who only stays with a man for his money. Typically, such a woman will leave once the man no longer has money. She will often take whatever she can when she leaves. West and Foxx performed this song at the 2006 Grammy Awards.

Cash Shit by Megan Thee Stallion Ft. DaBaby

Megan Thee Stallion’s Cash Shit is about female empowerment. The rapper asks women everywhere to be financially independent. She also talks about her success as a female rapper in the male-dominated industry.

Cash Shit spent several weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 34. It also scored the Platinum certification in 2019.

Rap Songs About Getting Money: Final Thoughts

The sheer number of rap songs about money made it hard to narrow it down to a list of reasonable length. I know we missed some songs even we would agree belong in this list.

If you know of any other songs that should have been on the list, please let us know in the comments below. We’ll be happy to add any good suggestions in a future update.
