Any girl scout or boy scout or anyone who went to a camp of any kind will probably remember this chant. It has been a regular at camps ever since I was a kid and probably much longer than that (and that’s already a really long time ago).
But what you might not know is that this is also a great warm-up chant for a young singing class. I’d use it right at the beginning of the lesson to get the students using their voice and get their energy levels up. Then move on to other warm-up exercises.
The basic chant goes like this:
(the leader says each line then everyone else repeats it)
I said a Boom Chicka Boom
I said a Boom Chicka Boom
I said a Boom Chicka Rocka Chicka Rocka Chicka Boom
Uh huh
Oh yeah
One more time, a little ______ (or ______ style).
The last line varies every time. For example, you can make it “One more time, a little slower” or “louder” or “higher” etc. Then you repeat the chant, but do it slower, louder, higher, etc.
You can also do it in different styles. You would say “One more time, race car style” then you would repeat it like this:
I said a vroom shifta vroom
I said a vroom shifta vroom
I said a vroom shifta grind-a shifta grind-a shifta vroom
Some more variations:
Barn-yard Style
I said a moo chicka moo!
I said a moo chicka moo!
I said a moo chicka bocka chicka bocka chicka moo…
Janitor Style
I said a Broom-Pusha-Broom!
I said a Broom-Pusha-Broom!
I said a Broom-pusha-mopa-pusha-mopa-pusha-broom!
Astronaut Style
Zoom-chicka-zoom
I said a zoom-chicka-zoom
I said a zoom-in-a-rocket-in-a-rocket-to-the-moon!
There are tons of variations you can do. You’ll find a lot more ideas on the Boy Scout Trail site.
